  1. So... cialism?

“The evils of capitalism are as real as the evils of militarism and evils of racism.” - Martin Luther King, Jr
  2. Also, cultural and educational forces have caused an overwhelming majority to believe MLK Jr was good, even if they unknowingly disagree with him. So for the conservative politician, it is necessary to paint his message of unity as being synonymous with silence and inaction. That way, it is the "whiners and name callers" in the outside groups who are the ones standing in the way of unity. That way, their support of MLK actually strengthens their conservative tribalism. That way, asking for more than just universal water fountains is the Real Racism and just lazy and unamerican and divisive.
  3. MLK spent the last year of his life detested by the liberal establishment
  4. Men Are Trash: The Megathread

all that's different from 2003 atease and vast swaths of this thread is that sometimes guys seem to feel a tiny bit guilty, or at least want to give off that impression great* job to all the guys for commandeering this thread. it truly** is all about you. *shitty **falsely
  5. NFL 2017-2018

  7. White nonsense.

Joe Biden is the king of talking to white baby boomers about things they FEEL are true, about how everyone should JUST SETTLE DOWN AND BE POLITE AND COMPROMISING (as long as it doesn't extend to themselves), that have no connection to the facts on the ground
  8. Faith, spirituality, religion, etc

I had the same thing but with a girl in high school It was confusing and dominated my thoughts and I always forget about it So, thank YOU for bringing THAT memory back!
  9. Faith, spirituality, religion, etc

I definitely think that if we hadn't left church when I was 5, or whatever age that it was, that there is a really good chance I would be some version of "you can't pick and choose which parts of the Bible you like," and probably believe same-sex attraction is a sinful temptation, and probably lose a lot of sleep worrying about all the people who are going to hell. That just seems like how the fundamentals of my personality would mesh with American Christianity. Either that, or I'd be a classic neckbeard atheist. I kinda like that I'm on neither path, but it does feel kind of isolated.
  10. Faith, spirituality, religion, etc

I think I was like 19 when I found out my parents even believed in god, and I was a little shocked, and a little resentful that they never talked to me about spirituality at any point growing up. I mean, overall I'm probably grateful, but a little miffed. I just don't think about a deity, ever, unless someone else brings it up. Even when I'm reminded of mortality and the scale of space and time, and freak out a little bit about how the permanent end to my consciousness is essentially already here... I don't think about a deity until I move on to, "well, how do other people handle it?" And I'm not even sure that's how they handle it, or whether that (handling it, or needing to handle it) even makes sense from their perspective.
  11. It seriously does not matter if he has a diagnosis It does not matter if he's doing any of this "on purpose" It will convince exactly zero people to stop supporting him It will increase the misunderstanding and demonization of neurodiversity It will give him no relief from his suffering, if there is any If you cant can't get more than 70 doctors to sign something, it is a certainty that the medical community disagrees with it
  12. Faith, spirituality, religion, etc

I've been aware of Albertville's demographics since I was a little boy, even though I don't think I've ever been face to face with a Latinx Albertvillian, because I have a racist dad
  13. Economics - The Thread

I told my dad that the average public school experience for a black child is worse now than it was in the 1970s, and he said he can't argue with someone making stuff up like that.
  14. Economics - The Thread

Absolutely shocking that the same people, who think nobody helped them when they paid for a year's tuition and a year's entire apartment with a summer job that hired anybody who walked in the door, are the people who don't understand "why your generation is so depressed despite having so many more advantages than ours did."
  15. So... cialism?

    Chumbawumbot is a good follow
  16. Well, yes. This is a feature, not a bug, and it always has been. Immigration status is one way employers suppress labor. It's the reason we have gone 30 years since the last amnesty with each new candidate promising stricter employer-side controls on documentation status of employees, with it never coming to pass in any real way. The deportation machine is what allows this system of exploitation, NOT what stops or limits it. Without the deportation machine, the incentive for recruiting undocumented labor is mostly gone. The system recruits and traps these desperate people into a scenario where they live in fear and will often have their lives and families torn apart. Border "protections" do not stop this, as proven statistically. Economic conditions are what can slow this down, as proven statistically. Capitalism is what causes this, and capitalism is our system of government, and therefore the system owes these people full citizenship whether they currently hold a job or not. Anything less is immoral and unconscionable.
  17. Does... Does Sun Green become a federal informant? This is like my 200th listen in my life and I just noticed that might be what Neil Young is saying. That hurts! I idolized Sun Green.
  18. What The Fuck Are You Listening To? How Is It? Thirsty?
