What The Fuck Are You Listening To? How Is It? Thirsty?

Recommended Posts

why are people sleeping on this when Reassemblage was one of the year's best albums.  this is like an extension of that!!

this stuff definitely reminds me of R Plus Seven which is another favorite of mine and really just Hassel and Eno's "fourth world music" stuff general.

it really fits the music though.

i'd call it fourth world music/ambient.  so, vaguely Asian (Japanese mostly, i guess) digitzed instrumentation and synths?  vaguely futuristic?  i'm failing here, i know, but it's definitely unique.  some people say vaporwave and i don't know about that but if i look up that term it's all shit i haven't heard of lol.

the albums i'd most compare it to are:

Oneohtrix Point Never - R Plus Seven

Jon Hassel & Brian Eno - Fourth World Music, Vol. 1: Possible Musics

Jon Hassel - Dream Theory in Malaya: Fourth World Volume Two

and come to think of it, it's really only like the OPN record.  the other two were merely influences on that record, i'd say, especially given that they are much older.

My least favourite Sparklehorse record but still

Imagine how pissed I was when I discovered the title track isn't on the LP.

And the Gold Day EP (where it originally appeared) isn't on vinyl either!

I don't think it being on there would alter my opinion.

Was talking about it with a friend at lunch, so it got me wanting to hear this for the first time in a long time. A Soundcloud playlist that I compiled of other people's versions of songs that I wrote. Guess I need an ego boost today.
