i still have no understanding of the dougie/good coop swap

my understanding is that, at some point within the past 25 years, the doppelganger/Evil Coop somehow brought Dougie into existence (via the ring, maybe??) as a means to fool the lodge forces into taking Dougie back when it was time for Good Coop to be let out. it appears that this worked.

my big question surrounding those events rn is as to whether Good/Dumb Coop is now just acclimating to IRL after being in the lodge for 25 years, or if he's all fucked up because he didn't get out of the lodge the "right" way. my hunch is the former.

as to the last bit of Ep 4, my initial thought was Audrey, given that they cut right to the roadhouse. but they also cut to the roadhouse at the end of every episode I guess so that might have been a coincidence. I'd put money on it being Diane, played by Laura Dern (I hope)

Finally finished Ep 4

Who do yall think the woman is going to be who questions Coop? Audrey?

I like that this was presented as the big cliffhanger

"I know where she drinks" smash cut to the bang bang, so it has to be a local, right?

but it would make more sense if it was Annie (who likely isn't on the show) or Cousin Lil :flowers:

more than likely it's Audrey tho

nope, wait LD as Diane makes so much sense

she totally has the acting chops to pull off that interrogation scene + the character is federal

Gordon probably wouldn't immediately think of little Audrey Horne from Twin Peaks

“You're going back in tomorrow and I'll be with Bob again.”

this is a good guess.

hilarious about this scene was how Coop just typed complete gibberish into the computer

this appears to be a good "explainer" on the dougie situation: http://www.lostinthemovies.com/2017/05/twin-peaks-return-part-3-call-for-help.html

Quote

It seems that Cooper can "go back" by traveling along an electrical current through a plug-shaped opening in the wall of the tower, which corresponds to an opening (a cigarette lighter, I think, which would be perfect) in the Lincoln driven by his doppelganger. The doppelganger's clever counterplan involves a lookalike named Dougie (whom the one-armed man says "was manufacted for a purpose...that has been fulfilled" just before Dougie explodes and consolidates into a tiny gold ball in the Red Room). The doppelganger drives to certain coordinates; I initially thought near the abandoned house at Rancho Rosa properties in Nevada where the amiable Dougie has just completed a liason with a prostitute in an unsold house. However, the troopers who pick up the doppelganger are from South Dakota. which is three states away - so apparently proximity has nothing to do with where the returning Cooper is diverted.

As the good Cooper attempts to return, the doppelganger closes his nose and mouth, refusing to trade places and forcing Cooper to move into the next available space: his double (triple?), Dougie. Two men, most likely hired by the doppelganger to murder "Dougie" immediately after he's become Cooper - thus permanently destroying the good Cooper - miss their chance and Cooper ends up at a casino in Las Vegas. He hits an endless series of jackpots thanks to the helpful hint of a floating mini-red room hovering above each promising slot machine. At the end of part three, Gordon Cole, Albert Rosenfield, and "Tammy" (I presume Tamara Preston, the FBI agent we met in The Secret History) learn that Cooper has been found...in South Dakota. The Cooper they're going to meet up with is the one who got into a car accident: the doppelganger.

this guy's recaps/reviews of all episodes have been real good, the most spot-on I've seen

I was curious about that song too so I watched in the credits, there was one song listed as like "american woman (david lynch remix)" or something like that that I think may have been it

one thing that's really amazing me so far about this is how deliberately quiet and retrained the sound design is, it's completely non-intuitive and it works wonders. like not just quiet in the sense that everything is slow and people aren't talking much but like, there are so many weird sounds that are so low in the mix they're barely audible, watching the first two episodes a second time there were a handful of really strange and disturbing sounds I caught that I completely missed the first time.

the rewatch of Hasting's interrogation was great, where a low rumble/drone kicks in when he learns about the murder. it's like BOB is lurking underneath the fabric of reality

yeah I mean it's obviously nothing new with lynch but the way he uses drones and machine noise to build that sort of uneasiness is amazing. I've seen some complaints about how there isn't enough music in the new episodes but the way it's been mixed so far is just as effective as a "real" soundtrack without being anywhere near as overtly manipulative in telling you what to feel. there were a few parts where I'm pretty sure there was a really faint high pitched sound too that was kind of dizzying
