I expected this thread to be about losing your house and/or your family

that's what a new gambling addiction means to me and the gamblers I know

you're fine. you have a $600 a year hobby...

that could ruin your life some day, but odds are, it won't. there's like 20 people at your level for every person at destructive levels. have you ever gambled on credit?

I hope those Super Bowl bets are + and not -

This is truly truly terrible advice, if you feel you have a problem then it doesn't matter if you're losing £600 a year or £600000 a year or even have a year where you make profit - and I'd know, I'm an expert!

I used to say the same thing about people in meetings who talk about drinking a six pack of bud light daily.... I'm like wait..... I'm a liter of vodka a day alcoholic what are you doing here but truth is I was just jealous they saw the light faster than me.

That's a good point. The way gambling is viewed in our society, though, it's easy for people to feel guilty about it even when their answer is "No" to all the usual questions people use to determine addiction.

Flake, have you made any more bets? How new is newfound on this?

True. I've been assessed for how severe each of my 'addictions' are and like the aoda person tells me, some addictions are healthier than others. And not having any vices at all is extremely unrealistic. I'm a fifth generation alcoholic/addict/gambler sooo... it's hard. I allow myself to smoke pot and do hallucinogens and if I do gamble, I only let myself spend so much. I also try to only gamble with other people's money.

Are you on bovada or sth? I would be in deep if withdrawals weren't so difficult

Lost all of my meager balance on clippers over rockets game 7 in the 2015 semis and have never gone back to the site or allowed myself to root for the clippers in anyway since

Hmm I'd seek professional medical help if I had a problem but attention seeking on the annex is alright too I suppose

wild idea here but maybe people are allowed to do both or either/or. I seek attention IRL and online for my issues... my psych sees me once a month for like ten minutes. I have an EMDR session every two weeks with my psychotherapist. Neither or these types of treatment allow me to actually talk about anything. So yeah a person might have stuff they want to talk about with their friends (board) even if they are also seeing professionals...

i asked the customer service at the first site i used to ban me :)

I used to ask bars and liquor stores to ban me.... it never worked. Thank god that casino banned me though.

Paying for professional medical help would cost more than the gambling!

Anyway I blew the rest of what I had on the warriors last night but I haven't felt the urge to put more in for now.

Great!

Think about something you enjoy but haven't done in a while, and do that. IMO

If it makes you feel any better, hymnos lightly scolded me for putting $20 on Doug Jones. Wish I'd bet a lot more on that one, tbh :tear: I barely ever gamble, but when I do I just assume I'm throwing money into a black hole. The thought of going into it with any other mentality scares me.

I came close to putting money on him. What odds did you get?

Glad I didn't, even though he won... I think. Haven't made a bet since Bama last won the national championship. But I bet on Bama to cover, and stupid Clemson backdoor beat the spread at the last second due to shredding the prevent defense

fucking hell! why would you want to put money on two teams that have zero to play for? and with the spread that big... yikes!

superbowl bet is interesting. looks like an easy $25 min (minus the vig...) , though I could see the jags coming in to spoil...

Yeah that's how I treat it when I go to Atlantic City. I usually bring $50 explicitly for gambling, and go into it assuming I'll lose all of it. If I get ahead at all, I stop immediately and go spend it at the bar :fun: Out of all the times I've gone that's only happened twice though.

One time I won $80 on the quarter slots almost immediately, spent the rest of the day hanging out on the boardwalk.
