Running: The running thread

Recommended Posts

My knee had gone to shit about two months ago and I could barely walk, let alone run, so I gave up.

It's been feeling pretty normal for the past two weeks, though, so I'm thinking of giving it another try. I just don't think I'm pushing myself as hard on the bike as I was running.  I dunno, we'll see!!!

I ran for the first time in a couple months today, and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't regress nearly as much as I thought I would have. And I have a whole week off still, so maybe I'll actually try to get a routine going again.

Oh, who am I kidding. I'd like to keep doing it, but I'm a lazy slug. We'll see what happens.

Oh, no. What's wrong? Didn't you pull something a while ago? Is it that?

I have a very specific point in my foot that hurts and I was a little nervous about going out to run today. Dr. Google tells me it's a stress fracture, but I have an appointment with a real-life doctor on Monday to check it out. Running didn't really bother it, though, so that's good.

While I need to see a specialist, I'm still running. Hard not to.

Wanted to go for a short run for a half hour and try things out. Ended up running all over this cute little segregated southern town and ran close to 8 miles.

My leg wasn't happy at first but I ran through the pain and had one of the best runs in a long time. Feeling p. awesome right now. Kind of want to cry.

I'm guessing it will be months of red tape and hoop jumping before I find out.

No more running for me. :(

Might try to take up swimming, though. Now that I'm going bald I guess I don't have to worry about the chorine turning my hair green.

I can't take my dogs swimming.

:(

Never cared for the water. I grew up in a landlocked state.

Mind, I did spend two summers fishing and navigating large and small boats around Alaska and the Inside Passage. Pretty much managed to stay out of water the entire time.

Once I went running on a remote beach in Alaska and came across a massive dead whale. Was pretty cool.

It would be nice if there would be a nice cover of snow for cross-country skiing. I'm hoping this will be the year I actually do it regularly enough to learn how to not fall over all the time.

You should have seen me on the ski lift the first (and only) time I've been downhill skiing! The lift operator would slow down the whole thing when he saw me coming. I fell on my ass EVERY time I got off the damn thing.

For someone who lives in Colorado, I am positively terrible at snowboarding and mediocre at best downhill skiiing.

My girlfriend is an amazing skier who goes on trips with her father to the Alps just to ski for a week. I hate her.

I was so clumsy with sports as a kid and I was delighted my high school had an arts program where I could take dance instead of gym. At least then I could stumble around in an artful, noncompetitive way.

i got a cheap recurve bow for my bday and my m8's boyfriend got an expensive compound bow from his gf for xmas so we're probably gonna go shooting often when the weather gets better

that's pretty much the only sport i've ever truly been good at. i really wanna go to a gun shooting range too but the closest one that doesn't require a license is only accessible by car :(

only a few times? what kind of American are you?

Right? And it was like 8 years ago at this point. It was fun and all but I just never had the inherent American urge to shoot targets with Bin Laden and Obamas face on it. I'd honestly rather shoot archery.

Now that you can actually see the road, I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine. I feel like if I get started this spring I'll be doing really well come summer. I need new earbuds, though. Those new Apple ones are so goofy--they don't even stay in my ears sitting still. And I think I lost my old ones.
